Brushing and flossing daily is imperative for gaining and upholding ideal oral health. However, even with proper brushing and flossing, it can be difficult to remove all of the plaque and food particles from the crevices of the back teeth. Dr. Sindhu Gundabathula may recommend dental sealants in Chalfont, Pennsylvania, to help prevent tooth decay. Dental sealant is a thin coating of resin that is painted onto the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. Sealants help prevent tooth decay by sealing out plaque and food particles.
Who Can Get Dental Sealants?
Both children and adults can have dental sealants placed. The earlier dental sealants are placed, the better. Have your child’s molars sealed in as soon as they grow in to help keep them cavity free.
How Long Will Dental Sealants Last?
Dental sealants can protect your teeth or your child’s teeth for up to 10 years. They need to be examined for chips and wear at regular dental check-ups. When needed, Dr. Sindhu Gundabathula can replace dental sealants.
How Are They Applied?
Our dentist will first thoroughly clean your back teeth. The teeth are then dried and cotton is placed around them to keep them dry. Our dentist will place an acid solution on the chewing surfaces of the teeth to roughen them. This helps the sealant bond to the teeth. At this point, the teeth are rinsed and dried again. Finally, the sealant is painted onto each tooth, where it bonds to the tooth. A special light may be used to help the sealant harden.
